High Quality, High Volume Sound – ample sound for your bedroom, kitchen, or backyard BBQ. People are always surprised at the amazing volume and full range sound created by the 2 inch full range speaker and 2.4W amplifier (140 to 20 kHz).

Compatibility – works with any device with a headphone jack (smart phones, iPods, tablets, etc). Also functions as an electric guitar amp.

Fun for both beginner and advanced makers – check out the assembly video and text instructions below. Only 22 solder joints (basic soldering knowledge required). Assembly requres less than 1 hour from start to music. Recommended for ages 12 and up.

Made in USA – high quality product with USA sourced materials, prepared in California by two dudes who love speakers.

Modular Design – headers connect the speaker and battery pack to the circuit board, so you can easily try different configurations or replace a broken part.

Sustainable Enclosure – most portable speakers come in a plastic box, which is a problem because less than 7% of plastics are recycled in the US. The glass Mason Jar is Earth-friendly because it is easily reused and recycled, plus you might already have one at home.

High Quality Cord – connect your device, fits in any 3.5mm headphone jack. Use ¼” adapter for guitar.

Long Battery Life – 3 AAA Batteries give you about 15 hours of jam time/easy listening (not included).

What’s Not Included – make sure you have access to these items: soldering iron, solder, phillips head screwdriver, wire clippers, ruler and 3 AAA batteries.

Our Mason Jar arrived straight from California, it's small but it weighs a little...!

It is well packed (it is better knowing that the jar is glass, even if it is thick).

We bought the pre-assembled with rechargeable battery and not the KIT to build oneself. The various components are all in the jar: speaker, charger, jack cable and adapter for guitar: we assemble our Mason Jar in about ... 1 minute!

You will be able to fill the jar of rice or other seeds if you want to give a special look to your Mason Jar!

The sound is really good but above all really powerful for such a small enclosure! We could not try with a guitar knowing that we play the cymbals and the triangle respectively ...

A small LED tells you if Mason Jar is on and on what kind of device it is plugged in: MP3 or guitar. A last LED will tell you when it is time to change the batteries or recharge the battery: "LO-BATT".

We like automatic detection: when you press Play on your device to start your music, Mason Jar turns on automatically. When you press pause or remove the jack cable, Mason Jar detects it and turns itself off: ingenious way to save battery!

Small tip for a louder sound: if you use iTunes: ctrl + A or cmd + A to select all your music in your library, right click to get the information / options / volume adjustment and increase the volume bar to the maximum, click OK, save and sync your devices: you will earn a few decibels;)

That's true, why should speakers be boring black boxes ?! Mason Jar has a fun design and we enjoy using it and watching it, it is a welcomed change! Moreover, the materials make it a beautiful little object of decoration.

It's decided, Mason Jar will rock in our premises.

In college, a friend of ours had an Altoids guitar amp kit. But the sound was not great, because the case was too small. The same electronics worked very well in a can of soda. We realized that we could put music in everything and anything: Trash Amps was born. After showing some prototypes to friends, we knew there was a market for a product of this type. Adam graduated in 2009 (Manufacturing Engineering) and joined forces with Ron (Electrical Engineer) to create Trash Amps.

After a prototype that was designed using a PVC pipe and recovered parts, we logically wanted to raise the quality level. We have raised money from our families and friends to design an injection mold! We built 500 Trash Amps version 2 that quickly sold through our website and a stand in the local mall for $ 50 each. So we built 1000 more. We are talking about 1,500 handmade units made on the dining room table! In September 2012, we sold the latest Trash Amp version 2!

We have worked on projects such as towel warmers and LED discs for golf. We specialize in woodworking, injection molding, CNC machining, solid modeling, rapid prototyping, electronic design and assembly (and the list still goes on). We do a lot of consultation for local inventors with new product ideas to help them turn their ideas into functional prototypes. Our current project, which we are working on in parallel, is a medical device for paramedics. Do you have a project for us? Contact us!

Adam has a degree in Manufacturing Engineering from California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo, California. Ron has a degree in general engineering and a master's degree in industrial engineering. Having worked on many projects together, their way of working is complementary and effective. Adam typically deals with product design, packaging design and 3D modeling. Ron specializes in electronics and designs and builds PCB prototypes.

Adam has finalized all the product design part for version 3. This includes 3D modeling, prototyping, testing and technical drawings (everything the manufacturer needs to design the product). Adam has also completed the same tasks for packaging.

Ron completed the entire electronic design. This includes circuit design, schematic creation, circuit testing and optimization using software, component library creation, prototype creation, testing and optimization of real prototypes, as well as the creation of documents, including handling and transfer of data, etc.

1. What is the power of these speakers?

Our speakers have a power that will suit perfectly a large apartment or a room. They are perfect for outdoor use, such as for barbecues or days at the beach. People are always surprised by the power of our speakers!

2.How do I turn on the speaker?

The Trash Amps speakers are intelligent: they turn on automatically when the music starts, and turn off after 30 seconds of silence. Alternatively, if you disconnect the jack cable from your device, it automatically turns off. This really extends the life of your battery, you can not forget to turn it off.

3. How do I control the speaker volume? ?

The speaker volume is controlled by the device you are plugging in: turn up the volume on your iPod or guitar and the speaker will sound louder.

4. How can I use a Trash Amp speaker with my guitar or other musical instrument?

Trash Amp is a legitimate guitar amplifier! We have seen Trash Amps used with electric guitars, electric ukuleles and keyboards. Use a ¼ "adapter to connect to an output of a standard instrument. A guitar adapter is included with each speaker.

5. Can I connect several Trash Amps speakers together for a more powerful sound?

The speakers have both INPUT and OUTPUT, so you can connect several Trash Amps together for a more powerful sound. Connect only the first to your device and then connect other Trash Amps via the jack of the first. This allows you to have a more powerful volume than either the use of your MP3 or your electric guitar.

6. What effect does the jar have on the sound?

Without a jar around the speaker it loses power, especially the bass.

7. Is there a risk that I explode my Trash Amps speakers?

No, it's impossible to explode the loudspeaker! Our 2.4W amplifier can not outperform the 2 "driver because the loudspeaker is capable of handling up to 5W RMS, so turn the volume on!
