It is after discovering aquaponics in 2012 that the agricultural engineer and biologist Marie Fiers embarked on the challenge of creating her own company: Urbanleaf. Having grown up as a city dweller, her objective was to develop indoor vegetable gardens adapted to the housing of the city. Nevertheless, an even bigger bet lies behind: reinventing agriculture and minimizing the consumption of water, soil and energy. For this, Urbanleaf wants to install collective aquaponics gardens in the heart of cities.
Based in Dijon, Urbanleaf is accompanied by the Burgundian incubator Premice in its efforts to democratize urban agriculture in France. The concept of harmony between plants and fish has particularly appealed to the MyMajorCompany financing platform. Indeed, its aquaponic system collected more than € 20 000. Symbium is a mixture of nature, leisure, ecology and design, made possible thanks to an intelligent and evolutive system.
Urbanleaf wants to encourage more environmentally friendly habits and participate in the rebalancing of the world to improve our quality of life. The company is also the winner of the national competition to help create innovative technology businesses in 2014, and plans to become the leader of urban agriculture and aquaponics.
